Rationale and Purpose:
An essential part of being a successful language teacher is mastering the effective integration of some technology tools for language teaching and learning. The goal of this course is to help teachers understand the important principles and applications in CALL to support, reinforce, teach, test, and enhance teachers’ classroom lessons and activities while fostering the learners’ 21st-century skills.
Program Objectives:
By the completion of this training program, teachers will be able to:
- Develop an overall understanding of the foundation of CALL and its application.
- Describe and use a variety of CALL technology tools and software.
- Inquire into areas of program-related interest such as instructional design and education technology.
- Develop scholarly habits of curiosity, inquiry, skepticism, and data-based decision making.
Guiding questions include:
- What is CALL?
- What are the foundations and guidelines for technology use in language classrooms?
- What principles and factors should be considered for using technology with ELLs?
- What are some of the very known technology barriers and how you can overcome them?
- What are teachers’ and learners’ needs in terms of computer technology?
- What Plan B in teaching with technology?
- What technology tools are available for free and for a premium?
- Why should you learn how to implement technology?
- What does the research say about the use of technology in the ESL/EFL context?
- What are the needed criteria for creating a lesson plan with the support of technology?
